What to eat after training..

One of the most important things you can do for your body is to eat properly after a training session. When you exercise, no matter if it's aerobic training or strength you have used glycogen to fuel at least part of the session as well as body fat. Your body after training is primed and ready to make more stores of carbohydrates ( known as glycogen) form the foods you eat. Delaying eating after training will lead to less glycogen being made form the food you eat as well as a decrease in your en…

Let's be practical

Having survived into May with our crazy ISO life, I hope you are all well and healthy and finding fun and creative things to do with your extra time at home. For those still out working, on the front line of healthcare and other jobs, I give you a grand thank you and wish for you some downtime and peaceful rest when this all stops being so intense.

For many ISO has combines multiple tasks over and above the norm and the thing I have noticed is clients and friends all taking about how much they …

Finding routine in the chaos

Ok I must admit I have been hesitant to write a blog this month, my inbox is overflowing with email alerts, blogs and how to stay healthy via.... (insert idea here). So what do I have to add to the noise I ask myself?

I thought instead of sending out lists of immune boosting foods and workout videos (just kidding I am not a personal trainer) I would take you through what I have learned about trying to stay healthy while doing an isolation vacation.  Don’t get me wrong, I know this is not a holid…

Seasonal Satisfaction

It is March, which means change is afoot. I’m not sure about where you are, but here in Sydney there has definitely been a shift in the air. That crisp air, with an ever so slight chill behind the breeze; autumn is definitely showing its presence. For my Northern Hemisphere readers, there is probably much excitement as the colder climates start to thaw and spring starts showing you its green glory.

Adapting our diets and lifestyles to the seasons used to be common practice. Alas no so much anymo…

Intermittent fasting, and the things we should consider...

For the last few years intermittent fasting (IF) has been gaining momentum to the point that it is commonplace for many people that I see as clients as well as being documented in popular media to do with health, nutrition and fitness. It is a rare day I spend in clinical practice where at least 1 or 2 of my clients are not either already doing IF when they come to see me or are asking questions about it. There is a plethora of information on the web about it, including this brilliant article, b…

Ready to Reset

The typical conversations you hear again and again as we roll into January.. everyone is all about loosing weight, clearing their thoughts, starting a fresh. Basically transforming into a new and improved version of the year before.

I have said before that I don't like to set resolutions or start restrictive plans but one thing I do love to do is have a little food holiday. Whether you want to reset unhealthy eating habits, lose weight, or just improve your overall health, a food holiday and swit…

Bloom where you are planted

There seems to be a misconception that Self Care is all about treating yourself to a day off or having a massage, which as a result means many individuals push it aside claiming they don’t have the time or can’t afford it.

Simple confusion. It does not have to take any extra time from your day that you valuably need nor does it need to cost you anything. It is purely looking after yourself both mentally and physically.

So what’s my first and easiest version? Ensuring your thoughts are those that…

Depression, Anxiety, Stress.. they are not such dirty words..

Kira asked me to guest post for her this month on stress, family and mental health… Why? Because I have been there, got the T Shirt, worn it to death, taken it off, washed it and now it hangs firmly in my closet to remind me of the lessons learnt along its journey.

Everyone’s story is different, and everyone’s story is personal, but they all have common traits and outcomes and that is what I want to talk about.

There is no shame in suffering from anxiety or depression. It can stem from childhood…

For the love of Adaptogens

Earlier this year, we explored the 7 Pillars of Health. One thing that sort of weaved it’s way through each of the pillars, unintentionally, was the impact that STRESS is having on our bodies. For example, we looked at how stress is potentially affecting our sleep hygiene, and our mental health. And, whilst each month I proposed a challenge or two, to help get our seven pillars back in line, I’ve had a lot of feedback regarding how I can help with stress in a clinical setting.

Can we get a little more Whole?

In case you haven’t noticed, half a year has already passed us by. The seasons have definitely changed, taxes are due, and most importantly; we have arrived at the final Natures 7 Healers – Whole Foods/Healthy Diet.

It’s been a bit of a journey getting here. Each month we dove into one of the healers, and challenged ourselves; we aimed for less technology before bed, more sunshine and fresh air, and getting more movement into our everyday. Some months were easier than others….

This month we’re loo…
